Empty Homes

The Government Office for the East of England’s Housing Team is working in partnership with Local Authorities and key stakeholders in identifying empty homes in the region and the reasons behind them remaining unoccupied for significant periods of time.

Empty Homes:

Following on from a baseline survey of activity around empty homes conducted by the team, a small working group consisting of Local Authorities, the Empty Homes Agency and the Housing Corporation was brought together by the Assistant Head of Housing at Government Office for the East of England. The group commissioned a research project to determine why homes in the private sector remain empty for more than 6 months and what can be done to bring these properties back into use. This major regional survey will help develop a regional strategy on empty properties as well as supporting Local Authorities in developing their own approaches.

See the related documents section below for the executive summary and final report of the research.
