Deborah Cadman, the new Chief Executive of the East of England Development Agency (EEDA)

New chief executive to lead region's economic development

Published: Mon, 03 Mar 2008 13:45:55

Deborah Cadman OBE has been appointed as the new chief executive of the East of England Development Agency (EEDA). She is currently chief executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council and interim chief executive of Waveney District Council, both in Suffolk.

Ms Cadman takes over from David Marlow, EEDA's chief executive since 2003, who will be developing his career in economic development and public policy consultancy, advice, research and problem-solving.

At St Edmundsbury, Ms Cadman has led the council to an 'excellent' performance rating, and to a reputation as one of the country's top district authorities.

Her career includes roles in metropolitan and unitary councils, in a government department and with the Audit Commission, where she was a lead inspector in London. She has a strong track record of building effective and productive working relationships across the public, private and voluntary sectors, and in leading large and diverse organisations.

"This is one of the most exciting, important and challenging economic development roles in the UK and I'm really looking forward to being able to play a major part in the success of the East of England," said Ms Cadman. "I'm passionate about helping people, communities and businesses achieve their potential and this will be an essential part of my new role at EEDA."

Richard Ellis, chair of EEDA, added:

"I'm delighted that Deborah is to be our new chief executive and I am looking forward to working with her to develop the economy of the East of England over the coming years. I'd also like to thank David Marlow for his hard work, energy, commitment and leadership during his time with us, and I know this will continue until he leaves us at the end of July."
