Watford regeneration project under the spotlight

Published: Fri, 18 Jan 2008 10:30:00

The Minister for the East of England, Barbara Follett, yesterday (Thursday 17 January) visited Watford Health Campus to learn more about plans to regenerate a site in West Watford.

During the visit the Minister met representatives of the Watford Health Campus, learnt more about this partnership and viewed the proposed redevelopment site that includes Watford General Hospital and Watford Football Club.

Campus Stakeholders including the East of England Development Agency (EEDA); Watford Borough Council; the local NHS Trusts and Watford Football Club highlighted how the project plans to deliver improved health services, a more sustainable community and enhanced leisure opportunities for West Hertfordshire.

The Minister also heard about proposed transport schemes including the Croxley Rail Link and the Watford Junction Interchange, which aim to provide better rail connections to London and an improved 'Gateway' to Watford.

Speaking at the end of the event Barbara Follett said:

"Today has provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about this unique partnership and its proposals to transform West Watford. The Watford Health Campus demonstrates how effective partnership can work towards creating improved services and infrastructure for local residents. I am excited by the proposals I have seen today and look forward to hearing more about how this project progresses."
