Energy is fundamental to our way of life. The threat of climate change and reduced availability of UK oil, gas and coal production must be addressed. These challenges provide a focus for a shift towards becoming a low carbon economy, through energy efficiency and the development of renewable and sustainable energy resources.
A key challenge for the Region is to try to reduce the energy demand arising from economic and household growth. We try to influence planning authorities and developers to take a more positive stance on incorporating energy efficiency measures into both new and existing developments, and to promote opportunities for both commercial and community renewable energy schemes.
There is good potential in the East of England for creating renewable energy, particularly from wind (both on and off-shore) and from biomass crops. Renewables East is the lead organisation in the region on this work and we work closely with them and other partners to promote renewable forms of energy.
